As we get ready for the season of Christmas my mind has been occupied with meals that are family-friendly. These are the meals that your kids will always would like to consume. In our home this creamy baked mac and cheese is top of our menu… along with the sloppy joes at the second! As a mom of two kids I understand ALL know how painful it can be to cook an entire meal only to get them to immediately turn their eyes and say “gross”. *facepalm*

It’s always been my big fan of sloppy joes that are classic. There’s something that is so pleasing about the sweet and salty mix and the messiness! I’m sure you enjoy them as well, because I’ve received many requests for recipes using sloppy joe.

I’ve tried a lot of sloppy joe-based recipes recently trying to figure out the perfect recipe. A few were sweet and while others were too spicy. So, after a while, I discovered the perfect balance. It’s the perfect mix. This recipe for sloppy joe is delicious, sweet, tangy and savory, all with the right texture and texture.

How to make your own homemade SLOPPY JOEES

Sloppy Joes at home are simple to prepare and are ready to cook in one skillet in just 20 minutes or less. Browned beef is tossed with green pepper and onion and then simmered in a sweetened tomato sauce with ketchup and sweetened tomatoes. The trick is finding the right spices to flavor the sauce!

What is the difference between SLOPPY JOES AND MANWICH?

It’s a technical term. Manwich is a ready-made sauce that is used to make Sloppy Joes. I’m not entirely sure what’s inside it, and I’ve never attempted it and therefore I’m not able to claim that my recipe tastes like it or isn’t. Manwich is advertised as an simple way to make Sloppy Joes… however, in real life, homemade sloppy joes are just as easy to prepare!

INGREDIENTS:

1 Tbsp butter
1 tsp olive oil
1 lb. ground beef
1/3 bell pepper with greens, chopped
Half large, yellow onion minced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 Tbsp tomato paste
2/3 cup of ketchup
1/3 cup of water
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
3/4 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp salt from kosher.
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
1/4 TSP black pepper
Sprinkle of spicy sauce (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Butter and oil are heated in a large skillet set over medium/medium-high heat. Add the beef and brown it breaking it into pieces while cooking, approximately 5 minutes. Drain.

Add bell pepper and onion in the same pan and cook for 2 minutes until tender. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds or up to that point, until fragrant. Add the beef back into the skillet. Add tomato paste. Stir well.
Add ketchup, water mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder salt red pepper chips (if there is any)) as well as black pepper. Mix well to incorporate.
Cook on MED heat for 10 to 15 minutes, until the mixture has thickened to the desired consistency. Remove from the heat and serve on toasty buns
