Angel food cake is what we associate with summers as a child. The lighter-than-air cake instantly takes us back to those summers when angel food cake was the perfect sweet treat to satisfy our sweet tooth. We’ve taken this recipe a step further than just an angel cake with some fruit. However, the improvements we made have helped this dish to be a top-tier favorite. Plus, it can be made any time of the year. We offer you heaven on Earth cake.

This dessert is also known as cherry angel trifle by our friends and families. It’s a delicious, decadent dessert that has many layers of deliciousness all wrapped up in one. First, cube an angel food cake (or two if you use the loaf variety) and then spread half the cubes in your 9×13. Next, spread the cherry pie filling onto the cubes. Then add the rest of the cubes to your 9×13. The cake will absorb the pie filling and pudding by being encased in a layer of frozen whipped topping. YUM.

This dessert can be served immediately, but we recommend that it sit in the refrigerator for at least two days. You’ll find a delicious dessert that tastes great as the flavors intensify, the angel food cake absorbs some of the pudding’s moisture, and then softens into a truly delicious and addictive dessert. You won’t be disappointed with this dessert, no matter what you call it.
