If you want to welcome your guests with some sweets or you want to make some for your kids or even for yourself, this recipe is for you. You can also prepare it if you are hosting a party. With the measures provided in this recipe, you can make 25 of these amazing toffees. This is a good quality sweet candy that anyone can make.

Toffee takes few minutes to prepare with few ingredients only. It tastes as if a special chef has made them, but I assure you that even beginners can easily make them. They taste as if you spent hours making them, but they are actually prepared in less than an hour.

 

The texture of toffee is crunchy and sticky. You will feel as if you are having store- bought candy. The taste is caramelized and sweet. Toffee will definitely satisfy your craving for something sweet.  You use only 5 ingredients to make this special recipe and they are very budget- friendly. You mainly use water, sugar and butter to make toffee. In this recipe, we added pecans and a drizzle of melted semi-chocolate.  What’s also amazing about toffee is that you are free to change or add any ingredients that you like (Check below for alternative ingredients).

These mouthwatering toffees contain 141 kcal of Calories. Per each piece, you get 11 g of Carbohydrates, 1 g of Protein, 11 g of Fat with 6g of Saturated Fat, 1g of Polyunsaturated Fat, 3g of Monounsaturated Fat, and 0.3 g of Trans Fat. In addition to this, in each toffee, you have 20 mg of Cholesterol, 59 mg of Sodium, 43 mg of Potassium, 1g of Fiber. Some people might think that because it’s toffee it is going to be too sweet. Nevertheless, in each piece of toffee you only get 10 g of Sugar. You also get some vitamins while having this tasty candy; such as 239 IU of Vitamin A and 0.1 mg of Vitamin C. INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup Salted Butter
  • 1 cup Graduated Sugar
  • ¼ cup Water
  • ½ cup chopped Pecans,
  • ¾ cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Spray your 10 x15 inch baking sheet with non-stick baking spray.
  2. Add an even layer of chocolate chips and pecans in the baking pan.
  3. In a heavy pot, melt butter over medium heat.
  4. Add in water and sugar and blend in with the melted butter in the pot.
  5. Cover the heavy pot and let the ingredients boil for 2 minutes.
  6. Gently stir the toffee until it thickens and becomes dark caramel.
  7. Once it reaches 275 degrees, remove from the heat and pour evenly over the chocolate chips and pecans previously prepared in the baking pan.
  8. Let the toffee cool completely
  9. Once it hardens, break the toffee into pieces by using your hands.
  10. Enjoy

 

 

Notes:

  • It is advisable to use real butter instead of margarine.
  • Using a candy thermometer is very useful to make toffee. Make sure to use it.
  • It is necessary for your toffee mixture to reach 275 degrees. If it doesn’t you will end up having a chewy texture not a crunchy one.
  • If your toffee didn’t set up well, place it back in the heavy pot and boil it for another minute or two. (You can do this only if you haven’t poured it over the chopped pecans and chocolate chips)
  • You should not allow it to burn. Therefore, keep stirring to prevent that from happening.
  • You can definitely make this recipe in advance. Just make sure to store it properly as indicated below.

 

Other ways to make toffee:

  • You can use walnuts instead of pecans. You can even choose not to use any nuts.
  • You can use another type of chocolate like white chocolate, etc.

 

How to serve?

You can decorate these sweets with sprinkles or a drizzle of melted chocolate of your choice.

 

How to store?

  • If any toffees are left, store them in an airtight container in a dry place, like your counter top for a maximum of 1 to 2 weeks.
  • You can also freeze toffee for a maximum of 6 months. Just make sure to keep it in an airtight container or a zip bag.
  • When you want to serve the frozen toffee. Allow it to thaw in room temperature and enjoy. You don’t need to reheat it.
