One of my absolute favorite comfort food items is hamburger steak served with gravy made from onions. It’s a simple recipe, yet it’s always a great meal. I typically make it whenever I’m feeling down because it makes me feel happier.

The greatest thing about this recipe is that it’s incredibly simple to prepare. All you require is ground meat, onion and a few other components to make the gravy.

When I was a kid I remember that even out playing, I knew we would be eating hamburger steak to eat for dinner. The smell of those sweet onions and the beefy gravy always was present outside. Most likely from the children running around all the time. It was among my favorites meals.

Ingredients

1 pound of ground beef
1 egg
1/4 cup bread crumbs from a loaf
1/8 teaspoon of ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon of seasoned salt
1 teaspoon powdered onion
1 teaspoon of garlic powder
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1 teaspoon Worcestershire
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1 cup onion thinly cut
2 Tablespoons of all-purpose flour
1 cup of beef broth
1 Tablespoon cooking sherry
1/2 teaspoon of seasoned salt

 

Directions

1. In a large bowl, mix together ground beef eggs, bread crumbs, egg pepper, salt garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, and other spices. Make 8 balls and then flatten into patties.

2. Heat the oil in a large skillet at medium-high temperature. Cook the onion and patties into the hot oil till the the patties are golden brown, about 4 minutes each. Transfer the beef patties onto the plate, and then keep warm.

3-Sprinkle flour over the onion and the drippings in the pan. Mix in the flour using the help of a knife, skimming pieces and pieces of beef off the bottom while stirring. Gradually add the broth from the beef and sherry. Season with salt and seasoned. Stir and simmer over moderate-low heat for approximately 5 minutes, or until the gravy becomes thicker. Reduce the heat down to low, add patties back to gravy. Cover and let simmer for 15 minutes.
