Most people crave refreshing drinks all the time. Nevertheless, we want to have them especially during summer. Follow this recipe to learn how to make a revitalizing smoothie made with banana and mango.
In two main steps, you can prepare one of the yummiest smoothies you can ever make. First, you freeze the mangos. Then, you blend them with the rest of the ingredients and voila! Your smoothie is ready. For the ingredients, you will need 5 main ones: frozen cubed mango, milk, banana, honey and vanilla extract. For thickness, we add a tablespoon of dry milk. However, this remains absolutely optional.
You can prepare this smoothie in 5 minutes. It is the freezing of the mangos that takes a little bit of time. That’s why we recommend that you do the first step before hand and you go do something else while the mangos get frozen. Each ingredient plays an essential role in the taste and thickness of the smoothie. The frozen mango and the banana are the main tastes of this smoothie. We add honey to add more sweetness if needed to the fruits. We also add a little bit of vanilla extract for more flavour. The milk is for the ingredients to blend and create a thick smoothie.
We choose to freeze the mangos to make the drink more refreshing and in order to avoid adding ice. Doing the latter makes the juice lighter and prevents it from being as thick as we want it. I personally prefer the method described in the instructions below.
This juice is quite healthy as well. We have tried to prepare it with natural and healthy ingredients. The amount of ingredients serves 2 cups of this smoothie. For details on its nutritional value, check the last section below.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup of peeled and cubed ripe mango
- ¾ cup of sliced ripe banana
- ⅔ cup fat-free milk
- 1 teaspoon honey
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- OPTIONAL : 1 tablespoon nonfat dry milk
INSTRUCTIONS:
- In a baking sheet, lay the mango cubes in one layer.
- Place the sheet in the freezer until the mangos are firm for about 1 hour.
- In a blender, put the banana, frozen mango, milk, honey, vanilla extract and dry milk if you are using it.
- Process everything until you obtain a smooth juice.
- Enjoy!
Notes:
-
- It is better to freeze the mangos than to actually add ice in order to have a refreshing drink with the perfect consistency.
- You can also freeze the mangos in an airtight container overnight.
- You can use frozen berries instead of the mango.
- Allow the frozen mango to thaw a little bit for about 15 minutes. This would make it simpler to mix in the blender.
- 1 tbsp. of dry milk gives you 100 mg of calcium. It is optional but we recommend that you add it.
How to serve?
Pour the smoothie in 2 medium-sized smoothie cups.
How to store?
It is better to drink the juice as soon as you make it. It will be fresh and you will benefit from its nutrients. If you leave it for afterwards, the bananas might get old and might make the drink unpleasing.
