Sandwiches like the Philly cheesesteak are great. A great sandwich is the sloppy Joee. The two make an excellent sandwich when combined. It’s a delicious combination of a sloppy Joee and the Philly cheesesteak’s delicious cheesiness. This sandwich is perfect for quick dinners or when you have a craving for comfort food. It does both.
There is a lot of debate about what should be in a Philly cheesesteak. But our sloppy Joee version uses green peppers and onions, which are then sauteed in butter until softened and fragrant.
INGREDIENTS
1 lb ground beef lean
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons butter
1 small yellow onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, seeded & diced
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 cup beef broth
8 oz provolone cheese slices
6 hamburger buns
To taste, kosher salt and freshly ground black Pepper
PREPARATION
In a large skillet, heat the ground beef and garlic powder until it is browned. Transfer the beef to a plate.
Butter, onions, and peppers should be added to the skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes.
Stir in Worcestershire sauce and ketchup. Add cornstarch to 2 tablespoons beef broth. Mix in the rest of the beef broth.
Allow to simmer for at least 30 minutes. Adjust the seasoning as necessary.
Take off heat and add provolone cheese. Serve on toasted hamburger buns.
